SAN FRANCISCO NEIGHBORHOODS
When looking for things to do in San Francisco, exploring its diverse neighborhoods is a must. Each area offers a unique experience, but three of our favorites are Fisherman’s Wharf, Union Square, and Chinatown. Fisherman’s Wharf, located along the scenic San Francisco Bay, is ideal for an afternoon stroll. This vibrant area is packed with restaurants, shops, and excursion offices, giving you plenty to discover. Don’t miss Pier 39, where hundreds of sea lions gather daily, or hop on one of the many Alcatraz cruises that depart from this area. Union Square is considered the heart of San Francisco and is a popular base for many Irish tourists. It’s a hub of activity, filled with shopping, dining, and cultural attractions—perfect for anyone wanting to experience the energy of the city. Finally, no visit would be complete without a trip to Chinatown, the largest and oldest in the U.S. Whether you’re sampling delicious food, browsing local shops, or simply wandering the colorful streets, Chinatown is one of the top things to do in San Francisco.
ALCATRAZ
Alcatraz Prison is a must while in San Francisco. There are many Alcatraz tours to choose from which give you the opportunity to experience the prison and it’s history. The eerie Alcatraz is located in San Francisco Bay and tours to it run from Fishermans Wharf. Learn about what happened in Alcatraz on a tour and take in the amazing views as you make your way out to Alcatraz Island. We highly recommend pre-booking your Alcatraz tour tickets before you travel as it can book out months in advance.
CROSS THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
The Golden Gate Bridge really is the ultimate San Francisco landmark! Spanning a whooping 1.7 miles over San Francisco Bay, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge is a must do while visiting the city. You can take bus tours across the bridge or you can walk it but our favourite way to cross the bridge is to cycle it! Once you reach Sausalito on the other side, grab some lunch and enjoy this quaint little village before catching one of the frequent ferries back to San Fran. Don’t forget your camera!
TAKE A RIDE ON A SAN FRANCISCO CABLE CAR
While you are in San Francisco, why not explore by using the popular San Francisco Cable Car network! These famous street cars go to many popular areas of the city and they offer a fun way to get around.
OTHER EXCITING SAN FRANCISCO ATTRACTIONS
