The World’s First Smart Ship

Hi everyone, Kathleen here. I am fresh off the inaugural sailing on board Quantum of the Seas and WOW did I have an amazing time!! Quantum of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s first 5* ship but this alone is not the differentiator, oh no, Quantum of the Seas is the World’s first “Smart” ship!

Being a techy fan myself, I was very excited to experience first hand the incredible innovations on board. Where do I begin!?

Bionic Bar

On entrance into the ship, we arrived in the Royal Esplanade area of the ship. The Royal Esplanade is a vibrant central area with many restaurants and bars scattered throughout. Located in this area is the much anticipated Bionic Bar, which is the first bar at sea where robots make and serve you your cocktails! With an interactive ordering experience and cool laid back music playing, the scene really is set for the robots to make your favourite cocktails. Watching them is so much fun in itself! It feels like you are in the year 3000!

Interactive Wristbands>

While on board we got given our interactive wrist bands which are like your pass to the ship! (You can see me wearing mine in the pic above!) Collect photos, charge items to your room while shopping in many of the high end stores such as Michael Kors or book your spa treatments and excursions. These new smart wristbands are the smart replacement of the traditional room key cards that you would carry around on board.

Royal IQ

Before you cruise or while on board, be sure to download Royal IQ, Royal Caribbean’s app that allows you to track your luggage, book dinners and shows and so much more! The Royal IQ app can be downloaded from iTunes and the Play Store. There are also iPads on board where you can log in as well.

Two70 Lounge

The Two70 Lounge is also an incredible new feature on the Quantum of the Seas. A relaxing lounge area during the day turns into an incredible show area at night mixing technology and entertainment. To see a daytime Ocean View turn into the backdrop of a stormy sky, a 1920’s Flapper night club and much more needs to be seen to believe!!

Virtual Interior Staterooms with Virtual Balconies

Also on board Quantum of the Seas are the world’s first virtual balcony interior cabins.

These cabins have been designed to show real time video of the outside of the ship as if you had your own balcony cabin! Cameras located at the sides of the ship record and play footage of the location inside in the virtual balcony cabins. The result is amazing!! Balcony views for the price of an interior cabin.

Now that I am back home from my sailing on Quantum of the Seas, it’s innovation, beauty and experience are forever in my mind and curiosity. There is so much to see and do and this cruise ship would be perfect for those looking for that 5* experience with technology in the mix. I truly was WOW’d by my experience on board Quantum of the Seas.
