Things to do in Calgary

Calgary is a great city resting near the Canadian Rockies. If you are planning on seeing the rockies, make sure to take in some of this cities wonderful attractions before you head out into the wilderness!

CALGARY STAMPEDE

Unleash your inner cowboy or girl at the Calgary Stampede! Each July, Alberta’s largest city swells with rodeo stars and those who love seeing cranky bulls fling the riders to the ground. The Calgary Stampede is a great festival and a lot of fun to attend.

GO UP THE CALGARY TOWER

Dare to step onto the glass floor observation deck at the top of the Calgary Tower for panoramic views of the city – and a clear view to the street, 160 m (525 ft) below. Find out more about how the world works at the TELUS Spark science centre. Get to know some of Canada’s most impressive animals in the Calgary Zoo’s Canadian Wilds exhibit. With 34 mid-way rides and 23 food outlets, Calaway Park is a grand place to play for the whole family.

GO TO A HOCKEY GAME

Cheer on the local ice hockey and football teams, the Flames and the Stampeders, Or witness the elegance of show jumping at Spruce Meadows. Get in on the action and visit the Olympic Oval speed skating track. Visit Canada Olympic Park which was the first venue of the 1988 Winter Olympics and is now a centre for training and recreational use my athletes and the general public. Here, you can shoot down the bobsleigh track and ride on the Skyline Luge – the longest luge course in the world.

GLENBOW MUSEUM

Delve into the history of western Canada at the Glenbow Museum. Learn about the city’s origins at Fort Calgary. Discover “How the West was Once” at Heritage Park Historical Village – Canada’s largest living history museum. Explore the Aero Space Museum. Take in a play, symphony or opera downtown at Arts Common (formerly the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts).
